Who Are We?

In Turkey, the tradition of actors’ and actresses’ union struggle began in the first half of the 1960s and towards the mid-1970s, different unions started to operate in the fields of cinema, theater, and opera.

As a result of the “Grand Actors Meeting” held on November 29, 2010, this initiative became a structure known and claimed by more than five hundred actors and actresses who participated in the meeting. The initiative, which operates with personal and independent efforts, has started to carry out the necessary works for the establishment of the Actors Union.

Each actor and actress who has supported the “Actors Union Initiative” has become part of the initiative and the initiative has officially enabled the establishment of Turkey’s first actors union: Stage, Cinema, Television, Dubbing Actors’ Union.

Stage, Cinema, Television, Dubbing Actors’ Union (Actors Union) held its first ordinary general meeting on September 10-11, 2011. After the general assembly, Memet Ali Alabora, who contributed great effort in the establishment of the union, alongside with Şebnem Sönmez, Cem Bender, Tuba Erdem, Yeşim Kopan, Janset, Hakan Bilgin, Timuçin Esen ve Devin Özgür Çınar were selected as the fırst Board Members of Actors Union to serve for three years.

In the second Ordinary General Assembly held on 6-7 September 2014, Meltem Cumbul, Tilbe Saran, Yiğit Özşener, Çağlar Deniz, Sercan Gidoğlu, Candaş Baş, Iraz Yöntem, Özgür Çevik and Ceyda Düvenci were selected the new Board of Directors, which was determined according to the Actors Union Charter.

The Third Ordinary General Meeting took place on September 17, 2017 and the members of all boards to serve for the next three years were elected by the delegates attending the general meeting. Accordingly, Members of the Board of Directors are now; Demet Akbag, Sercan Gidoglu, Taner Rumeli, Tuba Erdem, Ece Dizdar, Serdar Orcin, Sermet Yesil, Atilla Gundogdu and Tugrul Tulek.
